Help Our Heroes: $100k raised to go back into Chinatown!

Hi all,

What can we say? We are floored. Thanks to your generous donations, you helped us reach $100,000 in funds for Chinatown! It’s hard to believe that Welcome to Chinatown started just 6-7 weeks ago, with a hopeful goal of reaching $10,000 to help Chinatown businesses. This win is emotional because we have seen the potential of what good can come out of this, in what has seemed like many moments of darkness for the community. We thank you, and we can’t wait to continue sharing with you how your donations will benefit Chinatown businesses.

In our 4th week of donations, here is what your donations helped to accomplish:

  • Another 1,600 meals served to 19 healthcare organizations and to NYC’s Guardian Angels who have been patrolling Chinatown 3x/week to keep our streets safe. That’s 5,000+ total meals served to date!

  • Another ~$14,000 back into Chinatown businesses, which means nearly $50,000 back into Chinatown, and our remaining funds allow us to keep up our donation program for another 3 weeks.

  • This coming week, we are planning to serve 1,000 crisis nurses who have traveled to NYC to take care of our city. It’s our biggest request yet and for our visiting frontline workers, these meals were a welcome respite from the standard fare they’ve been relying on lately. “We are craving ANY kind of ethnic food you can find us, we’re so tired of pizza,” explained one nurse.

As promised, we are also sharing our latest financial report, to show where your donations go toward. Note that this chart was last updated last night, May 3, so our total raised funds is slightly outdated from the time of publishing this update.

We had a big week for Welcome to Chinatown. We launched our partnership with Asian-Veggies.com to help the Chinese-American Planning Council’s senior community by supplying them with fresh produce bags. We raised enough funds to fulfill our request to feed the 1,000 crisis travel nurses. Chinatown resident Leland Yu ran for 12 hours, crushing 61.6 miles, with supporters pledging to donate $1/mile. Leland has since raised nearly $20,000 alone, with all proceeds going to Welcome to Chinatown. Thank you, Leland!

We have more exciting updates to share very soon.

With thanks from Chinatown,
Vic, Jen and the Welcome to Chinatown team
