Feed Our Heroes: $33k back into Chinatown!

We’ve wrapped up Week 3 of deliveries and continue to learn so much about our community, our frontline workers and our place in it all as we navigate this pandemic through the lens of our initiative. This week, with your help, we were able to:

  • Serve 1,600 meals, which also means nearly 4,000 meals served to date

  • ~$14,000 back into Chinatown businesses, also adding in an additional new vendor into our donation rotation

  • To date, your donations means ~$33,000 goes back into Chinatown. We have ~$28,000 remaining

  • Next week, we estimate delivering another 1,600 meals.

Your donations have helped frontline workers find joy through the comfort of delicious food lovingly prepared by Chinatown establishments. We have ~$28,000 remaining in our fundraiser, which is enough funds to serve meals for approximately another 1.5-2 weeks, but suspect we'll be in PAUSE for longer, so please continue to spread the word and/or donate. Check out what one professional had to say:

“Hope all is well with you. I want to thank you and your team for organizing these delicious drop offs. I haven't seen my coworkers so happy in a while and they are greatly appreciative of all the work that you and your team do. They are all looking forward to the tasty meals that Chinatown will bring next.” - Medical Professional, New York Presbyterian Columbia

As we mentioned last week, our commitment to you is full financial transparency, so you know exactly where your dollars are being put to work. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, and you can also subscribe to our newsletter for weekly updates too (sign up at the bottom of this page).

We are constantly learning, listening and learning some more. On one of the many things we’ve learned this week: with the unknown of when businesses will begin to safely reopen, we’re figuring out how we can help Chinatown businesses quickly apply and file for small business loans and grants, and we’re also thinking about the long-term strategy of Welcome to Chinatown. Thankfully, we have an INCREDIBLE team of volunteers (now a team of 20!), where we all help each other ideate, iterate and execute to keep this initiative going and making positive change.Above all us, we remind ourselves that we always put the businesses we work with first, because they have always put us first as patrons of their establishment. For that, we are grateful to earn their trust in hoping we can restore Chinatown back to its vibrant, thriving soul, together.

With thanks from Chinatown,
Vic, Jen and the Welcome to Chinatown team

Welcome to Chinatown

Welcome to Chinatown is a grassroots initiative to support Chinatown businesses following the rapid decline in business as a result of COVID-19 and increased xenophobia. Welcome to Chinatown serves as a free voice to generate much needed momentum for one of New York City's most vibrant neighborhoods, and offers resources to launch a new revenue stream during this unprecedented time.
